Glossary

Slavery- Slavery is a condition of control over a person against their will, enforced by violence or other forms of coercion

Slave trade - The capturing, transporting, buying, and selling of people as slaves

Chattel slavery - Implies the legal ownership of a person or persons.

Husbandry - Farming: the practice of cultivating the land or raising stock

Acquit - Pronounce not guilty of criminal charges

Protectorate - In international law, a protectorate is a state or territory controlled by a more powerful state

Colony - a geographical area politically controlled by a distant country

Acquire - get: come into the possession of something concrete or abstract. 

Insolvency - The inability of an individual or entity to pay its debts when they are due. 

Maltreat - mistreat: treat badly. 

Slave - a person who is owned by someone.  
 
Suitor - a man who courts a woman.

Privilege - a special advantage or immunity or benefit not enjoyed by all.
